This nest was created by birds at my old converted country church retreat, 220 km North West of Melbourne, Australia.

Nest Project
Colourful Silk Embroidery
How the project started
Sitting in the sun one day, watching the birds flutter and play around the garden, I was struck by the idea of collaborating with the birds in their nest building. I drove to the nearest town and purchased the range of colourful silk embroidery cotton you see in the nest. Almost one year later, I was tending the rose garden in the front yard and suddenly caught a glimpse of a string of fuschia coloured silk embroidery cotton hanging from the eaves.

Collaborate with Birds
As I crossed the yard and approached the church my heart skipped a beat as yellow and orange thread came into view. I fetched the extension ladder and ascended to discover the beautiful little nest pictured. This was the beginning of the idea for the International Nest Project.
What is the International Nest Project?
I invite people from all corners of the world to collaborate with the birds in their nest building through scattering coloured silk embroidery thread and then reaping the reward of discovering a beautiful nest. I am asking that people register to participate in the project so that the scale and geographical diversity of the project can be measured.
Potential Exhibition
I hope to borrow a number of nests from participants for an exhibition showcasing the nests and the beauty of the concept. It will be exciting to see how far and wide this project is embraced and acted upon. The potential for a travelling international exhibition of beautiful nests from across the world is my dream.
Participate in the project.
I ask that participants contribute $1 AUD to the project to cover administrative costs. Once you have registered and paid the minimal administration fee you will then have access to a list of simple project instructions, hints and guidelines.
